Before You Close the Suitcase

  • Check the forecast with the National Weather Service in Honolulu for your island and dates.
  • Confirm any reservations you need for parks or sunrise viewing; many popular sites now require them.
  • Put medicines, a swimsuit and one change of clothes in your carry-on in case a checked bag is delayed.
  • Leave room for gifts, but read our agriculture page before buying fruit or plants to take home.

How to use the list

Print it a week before you leave, not the night before. Cross out anything that does not fit your trip — there is no need for summit layers if you are staying at the beach, or for snorkel gear if you will only swim at the pool — and add anything personal, such as contact lenses or a CPAP machine. Tick items as they go into the bag, and tuck the sheet into your carry-on so you can check it again when you repack to fly home.

Activities such as snorkel cruises and luau often supply gear; check what is included when you book on Discount Shore Activities.
